Tottenham have confirmed the loan signing of Kevin Danso from Lens despite Wolves' best efforts to sign the centre-back.

Spurs have announced that the 26-year-old has joined on loan from the Ligue 1 team until the end of the season, and there is an obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer. Wolves were also linked with the Austria international but Tottenham have pipped them to the signing.

After moves for Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel and AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori fell through, Tottenham have made a much-needed addition in defence with Danso. With Cristian Romero still out and Radu Dragusin suffering a new injury, Danso's arrival comes at just the right time.

The 6ft 3in defender began his youth career at Reading and then MK Dons before joining FC Augsburg's academy in 2014. Since then he has played for the German's side's first-team, had loan spells at Southampton and Fortuna Dusseldorf; before making his mark at Lens since 2021.

It remains to be seen when Danso will make his Tottenham debut, with Ange Postecoglou's side facing Brentford on Sunday in the Premier League. Should a work permit arrive in time, he could feature in Thursday's trip to Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
