Real Madrid dealt with yet another injury blow as right-back Lucas Vazquez has been ruled out of the club's upcoming Champions League fixture against Manchester City due to a hamstring problem. Vazquez, who featured in Saturday's Madrid derby in La Liga, was substituted in the 81st minute as Luka Modric replaced the Spaniard. On Sunday, Los Blancos confirmed that the player suffered a muscle injury on his left hamstring and will not be part of their travelling squad to Manchester.

Los Blancos suffered a major defensive setback last year when they lost Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao to long-term injuries in October and November respectively. The situation worsened in February as first they lost first-choice centre-backs Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba to injuries and then the Vazquez news came as a fresh blow to Carlo Ancelotti.

With Vazquez out of action, Ancelotti might consider using make-shift full-back Eduardo Camavinga on the right side. The Frenchman did play on the left side of the backline for quite a few games during the 2023/24 campaign.
