Leeds United slipped to third in the Championship table after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat away to West Brom at the weekend.
The Baggies had the better of the first half but neither side were able to break the deadlock before the interval. However, Darren Moore’s team were rampant following the break with goals from Hal Robson-Kanu, Matt Phillips, Harvey Barnes and Dwight Gayle giving them an unassailable lead. Pablo Hernandez’s late goal proved to be little than a consolation.
Marcelo Bielsa will definitely be concerned with young goalkeeper, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, again not at his best during the defeat. The ‘keeper was at fault for their second goal, allowing Phillips to score from long range, not the first time that the youngster has made an error in the current campaign. Bielsa would be wise to sign a new shot-stopper when the January transfer window opens in less than two months.
One man he should target is West Ham outcast – Adrian. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the Spaniard was a crucial player for the Hammers under David Moyes last season but was replaced by Lukasz Fabianski in the summer. Adrian is yet to make a Premier League appearance under Manuel Pellegrini and has less than one year remaining on his contract which makes his future at the club uncertain.
Adrian has been a solid performer in the Premier League for a number of years and Leeds could secure his services on the cheap in the New Year. With over 140 games in the Premier League, his experience could be vital with Whites looking to achieve a long-awaited return to England’s top division this season. At 31 years of age, Adrian still has plenty of time left at the highest level and would be a brilliant short-term option between the sticks.
This move should be a no-brainer for Bielsa.
