Sam Allardyce has dropped out of contention for the manager’s job at Everton, according to Sky Sports.
What’s the word?
The Merseyside outfit have been searching for a new boss for almost a month after sacking Ronald Koeman.
Allardyce, who resigned as Crystal Palace manager at the end of last season, became an early contender in the gossip pages.
However, Sky Sports claims that the 63-year-old has informed the club that he is no longer interested as the contract offer is only until the end of the season.
As it stands, David Unsworth, who is the Under-23s coach, remains in interim charge of the first team and has overseen three defeats and one win.
Is ‘Big Sam’ a big loss?
Allardyce is an established manager and even though he has more to his repertoire, the coach is a good man to bring in to pull clubs out of danger.
At the moment, the Merseyside outfit sit just two points above the Premier League relegation zone, but we are only 11 games into the season.
Everton may not be excelling as a team, but they have the players to push themselves away from the drop zone.
The club’s ultimate aim is to challenge the top six, so they need a manager that can drag the team into that bracket, but that will take time.
Allardyce may not be the answer, but the Toffees will struggle to find a top-class manager that is available and willing to sort out the mess at Goodison Park.
