Leeds United reportedly want to present an offer to Villarreal for defender Alfonso Pedraza.
The Lowdown: Left-back wanted
The Whites appear to working on signing RB Salzburg centre-back Maximilian Wober, with talks underway over a possible deal.
Wober can actually turn out as a left-back, but reports have stated that a new left-back and forward are also wanted at Elland Road. On that front, former loanee Pedraza now seems to be of interest to Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch, and a further update has emerged in the last 48 hours.
The Latest: Inter interest fading
Spanish outlet La Razon provided an update regarding Pedraza late on Thursday evening, claiming that Inter Milan’s interest is fading despite contacting the player.
The report adds that Leeds want to take advantage of the situation and ‘present an offer to Villarreal’, as they look to bolster their left-back ranks, with AS also saying he is in the Whites’ sights for January.
The Verdict: Smart move?
Junior Firpo has struggled with injury in 2022, so bringing in a new marque left-back appears to be the right call.
Pedraza, described as a “machine” by Simon Harrison, has gone from strength to strength following his loan spell in Yorkshire during the 2016/17 season, turning out in both the Europa League and Champions League in recent years.
He’s scored 23 senior goals at club level so could be a real attacking threat, and would also provide an option further forward due to his ability to play as a winger, making it a wise deal to go for.
