Greenwood, who had a successful loan spell at Getafe last season and has been linked with moves to Lazio, the Spanish side, and more, is reportedly set to join for £23.3 million ($30.1m), with £3.4m ($4.4m) in add-ons. United will also get a 'large share' of any future sale, with Fabrizio Romano previously claiming this would be close to 50 per cent. This move will bring Greenwood's near 17-year stay at the Red Devils to an end.

While speculation over Greenwood's move to Marseille has escalated, many of the French team's supporters got behind a campaign saying the forward was "not welcome" there. This comes more than a year after Greenwood saw charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour against him dropped.

Greenwood, who hasn't played for United since he was arrested in January 2022, is likely to head to the south of France to try and complete the transfer. Despite the potential backlash over a move, the club's new head coach Roberto De Zerbi has suggested he will back the youngster.
He told reporters: "The only thing I can say is that when a player signs for the club where I work, I consider him as my child. I protect him through thick and thin, even if I can pull his ear in private, I will defend him publicly. My players are like my sons."
