Newcastle United have reportedly now knocked on the door to sign Mainz centre-back Jeremiah St. Juste in the summer transfer window.
The Lowdown: Mainz raid?
It appears the Magpies are going shopping on the Rhine, as St. Juste’s centre-back partner, Moussa Niakhate, is also reportedly ‘attracting interest’ from the St. James’ Park faithful, suggesting that they could be looking to raid Mainz this summer.

The pair have indeed formed a formidable partnership together, as the German side currently hold the joint-third best defensive record in the Bundesliga, and so either one of them would certainly strengthen the backline on Tyneside.
The Latest: Bid expected
As per Fussball Transfers, the North East club have already ‘knocked on the door’ over St. Juste’s potential signing, and it is ‘quite possible’ that they will make a bid for him in the summer.
As he will only have one year left on his contract by then, he will only cost around €12m (£10m), but the Tyneside outfit will also face competition from West Ham United, Leicester City, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg for his signature.
The Verdict: Bargain
Considering that he is currently rated at £14.4m by Transfermarkt, getting St. Juste for a mere £10m would certainly be a bargain.
A self-proclaimed ‘fighter’, the Dutchman stands at a mammoth six-foot-three-inches tall, and his three aerial duels that he wins per game in the Bundesliga is only bettered by Stefan Bell at Mainz.
Atoning for his relatively small stature for a centre back – 6’0 – St. Juste is also exceptionally rapid, in fact he is the fastest player in the division, which is frightening considering that he is a central defender.
Nonetheless, at 25 years of age, he has not even hit his peak yet, and so now is the time for the Magpies to pounce.
