After losing 2-1 to Kansas City Current last weekend, San Diego looked like they would drop more points in the National Women's Soccer League as their match with Seattle ticked towards full time with the scores at 0-0. However, the 30-year-old scored a dramatic winner in the 98th minute to secure her team a priceless three points on Saturday. When she was doing her post-match duties, her team-mates decided to give her something of a soggy surprise.

When asked about the victory, she said: "I think we have been hungry this week in training and obviously didn't get the three points last week against Kansas [City Current]…" before her team-mates poured water over her head.
She regathered her composure and said: "Yeah, just a great team performance, the girls have worked hard. Monkey's off our back now and we are looking forward to the rest of the season."

San Diego, who topped the NWSL regular season table in 2023 but lost in the play-off semi-finals to OL Reign, are looking to lift the league championship after Gotham FC did so last time out. And strikes such as the one Van Egmond scored could be crucial in trying to achieve that goal.
