Horan sees red in UCL clashShoves player, confronts refereeCostly choice, Lyon drop points, draw 2-2WHAT HAPPENED?
The USWNT captain clashed with Haugland on the pitch, and followed it with a confrontational conversation with the referee, resulting in her removal from the match. It proved to be costly, too, as the 29-year-old's removal forced her side down to 10, with Brann equalizing in stoppage time to secure a point.

The sending off – appears – to be for something Horan said to the referee. The controversial shove between the players would not be sufficient enough to say it was violent conduct, and it appears the USWNT star spoke to the official during their discussion after. With no yellow card issued prior, the referee would have had to decide whatever was said was worthy of a straight-red card, considering the shove prior was not deemed a yellow.

The USWNT star and Lyon don't return to the UCL until the new year, so they will have time to both appeal the red card and prepare for a stint without the midfielder. They play St. Poulten on January 25, but have two league matches and a cup tie prior. As things stand, they remain first in their group, but Brann are now just three points behind them.
