Only the Premier League’s basement club Crystal Palace have conceded more goals than West Ham United after seven games of the 2017-18 campaign.
Indeed, Palace, who are already looking doomed, have shipped 17 in their seven matches, while West Ham are second in the list on 13 after some questionable defensive performances.
Granted, the Hammers only conceded three Premier League goals during the month of September – keeping clean sheets against Huddersfield Town, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City.
However, praising a defence which has the second-worst record in the league at this stage is questionable to say the least.
At the weekend, West Ham’s official Twitter account released a video which hailed the team’s defence, and it would be fair to say that the club’s activity on social media did not go down too well with the supporters.
That said, another clean sheet against Burnley next weekend might start to change their views.
