January felt like a season-defining month for Liverpool.

Firing on all cylinders before the turn of the year, the Reds entered the 2017 transfer window with the kind of momentum that suggested a big-money addition could be just around the corner amid a sustained charge for the top flight crown.

But 31 days, no signings and just one-win-in-nine-later, the Anfield outfit now find themselves in fourth place, with dreams of winning a first Premier League title regressing into simply hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

In fairness, the Reds did get some business done last month; finally getting Mamadou Sakho off the wage bill by loaning him to Crystal Palace, moving Lazar Markovic onto Hull City for the remainder of the campaign and selling Tiago Ilori to Reading for a decent, if unspectacular, fee.
