Che Adams to Leeds United has been one of the most talked about transfer rumours this month, but it’s also one of the most unpredictable.
One day it’s happening, the next it’s not, but an update over the weekend has given hope that a deal can be reached.
An article written by Phil Hay on The Athletic gave a promising view of the transfer happening as the journalist wrote that the Southampton board, Adams and Leeds all want the deal to go ahead, but Ralph Hasenhuttl isn’t quite as open to the idea.
Overall though, this update seemed very positive, but just a day after posting that article, Phil Hay seemingly poured cold water on the story.
What’s been said then?
Understandably, some fans were sceptical about Hay’s piece and one United supporter said that he felt like he was being led down a blind alley with this update.

The journalist wanted to clear the air and he replied:
“I’m not saying it’ll happen and to be honest, if Hasenhuttl digs his heels in then it would be brave of Southampton not to let him have his way. But this is the state of play.”
Not good to hear
Hay’s article made it seem like this deal was edging towards completion, but we’re seemingly back to square one after this tweet.
It’d be tough for the Southampton board to justify going over the manager’s head on this one. The Austrian is leading the south-coast club through a great run, winning four of their past five league games including matches against Tottenham and Chelsea. Therefore, they won’t want to mess with what seems to be a winning formula.
It seems that it’ll be tough for Leeds to sign Adams, and this tweet from Hay makes it seem less likely than it already was. Given United only have one striker at their disposal, this isn’t news they wanted to hear.
In other news, Victor Orta deserves a lot of credit for one aspect of his job.
