Kiko Casilla may be the most heavily-criticised player at Leeds United.
To be fair, you can understand why the fanbase aren’t too high on the Spaniard, he’s made numerous high-profile errors in recent weeks against the likes of Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Wigan, but he’s somehow remained in the starting XI.
Fans have called for Casilla to be dropped, and we tend to agree that it’s time for the former Real Madrid man to lose his place in the starting XI.
Bringing Illan Meslier into the team makes sense on many levels. He was mightily impressive on his debut against Arsenal, drawing praise from both sets of supporters on his way to making four saves. Thus, giving him first-team experience would be beneficial ahead of the first-choice goalkeeper’s potential ban for racism.

It seems inexplicable why the Frenchman hasn’t been given a chance, but reports last week may explain why he hasn’t been put in.
Reports in France state that Leeds’ option to buy Meslier would become an obligation to buy if he plays ten games for the club, and with United’s FFP situation being rather precarious at the moment, you understand why they may be reluctant to put the 19-year-old between the sticks.
Phil Hay has previously stated that signing Meslier permanently would cost Leeds around £5m.
£5m is a lot of money, especially when you’re under tight FFP constraints, and as poor as Casilla has been recently, Leeds have still managed to find themselves five points clear of third place with him as their first-choice.
Putting Meslier in goal would be the logical solution to United’s current goalkeeping woes, but perhaps they’re right to avoid playing the teenager if it’s going to cost them the fee claimed.
It will be interesting to see what Leeds from here on out with the Spaniard facing a minimum six-game ban. Not only that, but he also picked up an injury on Saturday.
